Sunscreen and your skin.

Dr Damien McNally

Does sunscreen really reduce wrinkles?
Anti Wrinkle SPF SunscreenSummer’s here again and while we may not be known for our long, hot summers, we’re just as likely as anyone else to suffer from the effects of the sun. A study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine reveals that using sunscreen not only protects against sunburn and skin cancer, but it might also reduce the appearance of aging on your skin.
Australian research shows significant anti-ageing results!
The study took place in Australia and used 903 adults aged up to 55 years old with an average age of 39. Over four-an-a-half years, one half of the group were asked to use sunscreen, SPF 15 or greater, every day. They had to apply the sunscreen every morning, after baths or showers, after being in the sun and after sweating. The other group could continue using sunscreen however they pleased.
Skin on the members of the control group showed 24% less signs of aging, like wrinkles, lines or coarseness.
While not surprised by the results, dermatologists declared the findings to be significant and they are even more so, given that the data was collected in the 1990s. Today, of course, sunscreen is much more effective with greatly advanced formulas and while daily use of moisturising cream produces similar results, sunscreen of course helps in the prevention of skin-cancer.
How else can we reduce the effects of ageing on the skin?
At the Rejuvenate Anti-Ageing Clinic, we see at first hand the results of sun damage and we’re dedicated to helping patients reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles caused by the sun. Led by Dr. Damien McNally, MB Bch BAO DRCDG MRCGP, our experienced and trusted team help patients reduce the signs of ageing with two non-surgical procedures:
Botox® is a natural purified protein. It works by temporarily reducing the contractions of muscles that cause lines to appear on the face. This means that the skin appears smoother and rejuvenated. It’s regularly used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and lines on the forehead, between the eyebrows and around the eyes.
Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers are hyaluronic acid gels. Their use reduces the appearance of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds by restoring the volume and tone of the skin. Dermal fillers are injected into the skin and typically used to reduce lines between the mouth and nose, around the eyes and from the mouth to the chin.
Effective and affordable treatment with Rejuvenate
